BRTW presents REVOLUTION at HERE Arts Center

After a successful Northeast tour, Black Revolutionary Theatre Workshop is bringing REVOLUTION to HERE Arts Center for its NYC Premiere.

“It reaches into the audience and slams them on the ground. It’s a spiritual powerhouse – with an intellectual punch to match.”

“While the company is [young], their premiere promises to spark gut responses and encourage a deep and profound look at a new Revolution.”

Current events, political tension, and pop culture are on a collision course in a not-too-distant and eerily familiar dystopian future. Revolution reveals fractioning communities grappling with war, media, and identity. In a series of powerful vignettes, we see cops, activists, clergy, and soldiers navigating the dynamics of oppression, revealing lives lost and abandoned on the road to freedom.

Join the Revolution

Related to this production, we’re producing a short docu-webseries about what Revolution means to Black people, and we want to highlight the perspectives of artists and activists.

The word “Revolutionary” in our name draws its inspiration from a number of activists and artists who dedicated their lives to the social, political, and economic advancement of people of African descent. In 2016, we are curious to to learn:

  • – Has this word evolved in popular consciousness?
  • – What does a Black Revolution looks like to today’s up-and-coming activists and artists?
    • * Is it non-violent or a call to arms?
    • * What will its aims be?
    • * Are we seeing the seeds of a Revolution now?
  • – What are you looking for from a Revolution?
  • – What does a Revolution need to be successful?

If you would like to participate in this project, please fill out the form below. We’d like to interview as many people as possible, and there are no right or wrong answers. You don’t have to give your name, nor do you have to show your face.
